Lightbulb Moments

Clarity and self-affirmations.

Today's lightbulb moment, and also, a trait I like about myself and am rather proud of:

To the right - a very pretty case for jewelry? makeup brushes? something girly... that I received as a bridesmaid thank you gift that has sat in its box, unused, for years - because I don't own such brushes, use or know very much about makeup, nor wear jewelry that needs its own case when I travel 🤷🏻‍♀️. To Mother Hen's chagrin, I just don't care enough about that stuff, and feel like I've gotten by so far (poorly, Mother Hen would say - evidenced by my lack of spouse; am open to good candidates if anyone has nominees...) without it.

To the left: My trusty Craftsman multi-head screwdriver that I have used so much that the plastic cap for the chamber in the handle that holds the heads has broken, leaving me in danger of losing my bits 😕. I have been mulling how I might craft a new cap...

And then I remembered the jewelry/brush case, and it's just the right size!!! Yahoo!! Now I can go and unscrew the shelf in my storage cabinet, and reorganize my stuff, and move on with this and other DIY projects for years to come - independently, for myself, to my exacting standards, without having to rely on external (stereotypically male) help. I'm not great at all parts of adulting, but I think I'm passably good at the fixing/improving the broken household stuff part that women don't get enough credit for, and I am pretty proud of myself for that 😊.

(And, I have a bunch of good women friends who are, and feel, the same - which I think is pretty awesome!)

Year of the Cat!

Lunar New Year 2023 is the Year of the Cat if you are Vietnamese; it's a Rabbit year for the Chinese.

May we all enjoy good health, happiness, prosperity, love, peace, good food!

1 - Offerings to the ancestors on Tet eve.

2 - Harvesting luck: my turn this year (my Tiger is compatible with the Cat) to go out before midnight and be the first through the threshold during the new year  to usher in luck to the family.

3 - Good luck greens and good luck money.

4 - Transferring the protective red bracelet  that got me through my transformative, but potentially fraught, Tiger year to Sis, who may need it during her Cat year.

5 - Sugared coconut for a sweet year.

6 and 7 - Tet dinner: Eggrolls over "bun" rice noodles.

Zzz, or Not

It's the not so bewitching hour.

At least I seem to be right on track age-wise with the sleep troubles. But maybe we've just been fighting our biology. So, bananas are supposed to help.

Mid-January Food and Flowers

The January post-holiday doldrums were broken up by a business getaway - a nerd convention for advisors to the rich, back with a vengeance in-person for the first time since COVID.
Plated, styled, adorned expense account dessert - merely the first of a 6 day stay. Networking meals all week long.

Work conference meal gluttony and cookie favors, ...

A sugary favor from one of the conference sponsors - one of the artworks they had auctioned.

Beautiful weather, resort amenities.

Pool, deck chairs, golf course beyond.

Sunset from the balcony.

The not small, not subtle water park.

... followed by return to home ...

... grounding rituals of Kitchen God offerings ...

... and the appearance of Winter snowdrops - markers of the first mid-month of 2023.

Journeying Into 2023

Life's a beach on the first day of 2023.

Happy 2023! The takeaway from the first day was to be guided by hopes, go after the target, but, ultimately, be open to different experiences, and relish the journey and delight in the small, happy surprises along the way. And cherish the company.
